Society's Ills Today

Chapter 13   Society’s Ills today

Attention, Attention!
Do you see me?
Do you see my neon warning lights?
My purple, green, chartreuse strands make a stand.
Attention, Attention!
Do You see me?
My tattooed body, mind and soul,
Nose pierced, ears pieced, everything pierced
Hatred for myself, hatred for you,
Hatred for society.
Attention, Attention!
Do you see me?
I hope I grossed you out,
Totally!

Many in society today are narcissistic and totally about being recognized in society no matter what bizarre way they do it.  Basic instincts are indulged and many are very self serving and self absorbed.  An example is “Selfies”  It’s all about me and my life and what I’m doing.  I don’t really care about anyone else is the attitude of many today.   The “Me” generation has created  “Me” children that are totally selfish and wrapped up in themselves.

Much of society has become not only narcissistic, but masochistic.  Defacing themselves and making themselves ugly for attention. Many in society have become lazy and entitled thinking the world owes them a living without any effort themselves. They spend their days panhandling, drugging, or selling drugs.  They have no self-respect and think it’s fine to have their hand out for money to support their drug and alcohol habits.  In actuality they have lost their freedom to drugs and have lost their self will and conscience as well, to substances.

So many in the world today are so very lost in their direction.  We have created a very shallow society.  With the saturation of pornography and sexually explicit television and film sex has become an impersonal basic instinct. Love and emotion are absent in so much of relationships today.  Sexual relations have no deep basis or spiritual connection to another person.  Sex has become a basic instinct like going to the bathroom.

That brings up another serious ill in society today.  Many have decided to be done with organized religion that taught them some morality, and social rules to make society a better place.  They have not replaced it with any kind of spiritual program so they are spiritually bankrupt. They don’t really know what spirituality is because they have never been exposed to it.  Media and television has raised the children of today and media and television aren’t doing a very good job.  Dysfunctional homes are the “norm” today on television. These kinds of programs only perpetuate the illnesses of society.
Today’s societies seem to worship violence.  They are addicted to it and we can see the senseless crimes that have been committed by disturbed people in our society. Violent video games teach children that life is cheap and that killing brings no consequences. It deadens their conscience to violence and makes it seem normal and common place to kill. Many parents are not responsible with these video games and are as disturbed as their children and play them along with them. They don’t monitor what the children watch. They buy the violent video games for their children.  They aren’t responsible with weapons in their homes and the children get access to them and disturbed children act out the violence they have seen in video games and on television. Some perpetrators have used excuses like “Girls never gave me a chance,” to murder innocent people and commit acts of “terrorism”.   Other’s watch television or film and act out what they see in film on society for attention. There are too many in our society that aren’t getting help and too many parents that are blind to their weaknesses in parenting and to what is really going on in their child’s life and mind.

College professors are not helping the problems in society by pushing their  “liberal agendas” that will eventually take down society as we know it.  They preach about  “Socialism” and the next step  is really “Communism” which is what they believe in even though time and time again it has proven not to be successful in societies. The people in the United States have always enjoyed relative freedom so they don’t truly understand what it would be like to have no freedom and the government dictating everything  from the food we eat to the programs we can see on television and in the media. Threat to our personal freedoms is the most destructive thing that college professors pander. Our societies in the United States have no idea what it would be like to have to wait in bread lines for hours, just to buy a loaf of bread.  Too many in the United States have become complacent and are not aware of what a serious threat losing our personal freedoms would do to this country.  They sit idly by while are freedoms guaranteed in the constitution are disappearing one by one.

Germany is a perfect example of what can happen to a society when a charismatic leader with disturbing agenda’s takes over the country. The  people in Germany were somehow hypnotized by Hitler’s hype and horrendous crimes against society occurred because they refused to stop him.  When he seized too much power, it was too late for the people in that country to do anything about it or they would be killed themselves. Ignorance is not “bliss”. Ignorance and apathy will take us out!

We must wake up to the destructive influences in our society and take action to stop them! By not doing anything we are agreeing to the demise of society. Apathy will destroy us. We must stand up and take back our social environment. We need to be actively protesting senseless violence on television and the most powerful way we can do it it to stop watching! Another very important thing to do is to be very verbal with companies that pander and produce this kind of sickness in our society by calling the companies and complaining regularly. Let them know it is not okay!

Taking action by not buying violent video games and film hits right where these destructive forces won't like it but if we bankrupt them, they won't exist. We must be actively aggressive in not allowing these destructive things in our homes. We need to "unplug the screen drug" that has so much of the people in our society hypnotized by it.

Educating those that are easily manipulated by these destructive elements in another way to attack this serious problem. People need to be very verbal instead of being complacent and not speaking out against these things. They need to form groups and educate other people in the schools to how destructive these things our to our families, and to our society.
